Welcome to St. Philips Website

St.Philip's Church, Cosham, is a church of the Church of England and part of the Portsmouth Deanery of the Diocese of Portsmouth  link Diocese of Portsmouth

Welcome to the web-site of St. Philip’s Cosham.

Our Church is not just an architectural gem – it is a place where we can truly sense the presence of God, which was the intention of its architects, Sir Ninian Comper, and his son Sebastian.

We welcome all those come through the doors of the Church whether it is to join in our worship or to say a quiet prayer, to celebrate a baptism or a wedding or to gather in remembrance at a funeral.

St. Philip’s request Show us the Father carved over the door is answered in the stained glass window at the East end of the Church He who hath seen me hath seen the Father.

As the new Priest in Charge of St. Philip’s, I would like to give you a little of my background.

I am also Priest in Charge of St. Peter and St. Paul, Wymering and I was licensed to both churches by the Bishop on April 27th this year.

My previous post was as Associate Priest in the United Benefice of Stratfield Mortimer, Diocese of Oxford, which consists of three rural parishes about eight miles south of Reading. I also taught Religious Studies part-time and had pastoral responsibilities at Leighton Park School which is an independent boarding and day Quaker School for pupils aged 11-18 there.

I am married to Michael and we have four grown-up children and one granddaughter.

With a background in education, I have a particular interest in teaching all ages. Like St. Paul. for whom I have a particular devotion, my overwhelming desire is to spread the faith, hope and of love of the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone. It is a privilege to be called to serve in Wymering and Cosham; there is much work to be done and I am delighted to have received such a warm welcome from everyone I’ve met.

I can be contacted at Wymering Vicarage via the Office for both Parishes, 023 92376307.

The Revd Juliet Straw.
